It’s been a wild few months, but they made it. In time for the SKATEISM: Skate Borders exhibition and fundraiser at BRIGHT 2018 in Berlin, Issue One of The Diversity Skateboarding Magazine is complete. It’s been a dream for them for years, a labour of love which has been a long time coming: to create a whole new genre of skateboarding magazine. They at SKATEISM never wanted to create a magazine that was interested in pros and products, brands and board releases. They wanted to create a magazine that supported the culture: skateboarding culture, the thing that lives on whenever there’s a drop in popularity or a height in commercialism in the industry.
They wanted to create a magazine that supported the underground and the overlooked. A magazine that supported the women’s skate scene, LGBT+ communities, queer culture, DIY and skate-aid. They spoke to Lacey Baker, Lucas Beaufort, distributors and upcoming brands, charities and photographers. They wanted a magazine that shows the kids the power skateboarding has for good, shows how it saved all our lives, and how it’s still the home of the outcast. So that’s exactly what they made.
Make sure to check them out and support the project at SKATEISM.
